Mastano Dzimbiri
he/him Mastano Dzimbiri is a second-year doctoral student in the Educational Leadership, Culture, and Curriculum program, and a graduate research assistant in the Department of Family Science and Social Work at Miami University. His research interest centers around social justice, social inequalities, geography pedagogies/curriculum, and educational policy in the Global South. He applies neo-Marxist and decolonial approaches to understand and challenge the existing social, cultural and political hegemony that continues to subjugate and oppress the vulnerable population in the educational spaces and beyond. Outside academic work, Mastano is a member of GSRRC (Graduate Student Rights and Responsibilities Committee) in the graduate school~a position that helps him to support both domestic and international students on how they can have access to policy information about their rights, as well as use the existing resources that are critical for their academic success. |
Undergraduate Students
Rian Tucker
he/him Rian Tucker is a senior who double majors in Social Work and Individualized Studies with a focus in transgender youth health and psychology at Miami University. Within his individualized studies major he also uses an interdisciplinary approach to advocate for sexual violence prevention on campus. Rian is currently interning in the office of Student Wellness on campus. Rian grew up in Dayton, Ohio and is a first-generation college student. Rian has been the recipient of many scholarships and grants including the Western Program’s Turner Fund. Rian has been involved in Miami’s Residence Life. He has served as a Resident Assistant, held multiple leadership positions, presented at conferences, and received the Regional First Year Leadership Award. After graduating Miami, Rian plans to attend graduate school to obtain his masters in social work and have a career focused in trans advocacy and research. |
Evie Beyerle
she/they Evelynn (Evie) Beyerle is a senior who is studying Family Sciences and Psychology with a minor in Women and Gender Studies and a certificate in Fostering Just Communities at Miami University. Along with Evie’s studies, they dedicate a lot of time working with the queer community and sex education programs. Evie has been the recipient of the Redhawk Excellence Scholarship. Along with the lab, Evie is part of the Sexuality Education Studies Center at Miami working on different projects and as an Undergraduate Assistant in Miami's comprehensive sex education course. After graduating Miami, Evie plans to continue their education with a focus in sex education. |

Tess Kihm
she/her Tess Kihm is a master of social work student with a focus on mental health at the University of Illinois. She graduated from Miami University with a Bachelors of Social Work. During her time at Miami, Tess was involved with residence life, Best Buddies, and her sorority Alpha Delta Pi. At the University of Illinois, Tess is a Graduate Assistant for Therapeutic Services and Assessment at the UIUC Counseling Center. As she continues her studies, Tess hopes to have a focus on early childhood mental health with a holistic approach. Tess has a 20-hour kids yoga teacher training certificate and is working towards becoming a certified teacher. She hopes to integrate yoga and mediation with traditional Western approaches to mental health. Jack Shelley
he/him Jack Shelley is a senior Social Work major with a Social Justice minor. He is currently interning in a high school setting with students with disabilities. Within Jack’s social justice minor, Jack focuses on policy change and advocacy. Jack has been the recipient of the Redhawk Excellence Scholarship throughout his college career and has also received multiple other scholarships and grants. Outside of school, Jack works with a community organization to help foster youth job skill development. After graduating Miami, Jack plans to work within the social work field in a setting that coincides with his social justice interests. |
