Our Mission

Our Mission
The mission of Queer Social Work Lab is to build knowledge that promotes queer and transgender health and wellness. Our research focuses on the intersectional experiences and needs of queer and trans people and their interactions with systems of care. We are committed to queering knowledge production and research methods through decolonizing both what and how we study. We consciously and intentionally use the term “queer” as an approach to discussing gender and sexuality while actively rejecting heteronormative and cisnormative expectations of assimilation and normativity. We seek to advance a critical and radical social work praxis in which knowledge and action inform one another through relational and transformational means.
About the Lab
Our multi-institutional research lab is led collaboratively by social work faculty and student scholars who engage dynamic processes that center the knowledge gained through lived experiences and marginalized perspectives to foster connection and relationship building.
